This page is the introduction to a collection of SEO Resources which I have found to be useful and informational in gaining a better understanding of the current state of SEO. I have endeavored to include references to many of the different viewpoints which may be current today, but of course I have strived to omit any that I feel do not represent current and accurate thinking.
SEO Resources
SEO is not an easy topic to understand for many reasons, but chief among them are the facts that it is not an exact science, and that the search engines do their best to keep the exact details of how they rank pages secret. It's not that the search engines do not want us to succeed, but that if the details that we try so hard to unearth were common knowledge, the search engines would soon be spammed to the point that they would become useless.
This is one of the reasons that continual examination of numerous references is necessary to the practicing SEO. Forums are perhaps among the most useful these resources as they present the viewpoints of many knowledgeable individuals including on occasion representatives from the major search engines themselves.
Other resources are the papers written by respected members of the SEO and information retrival community, who have unique (though sometimes contradicting) viewpoints.
These resources should serve as a guidepost not a crutch. Use them to find sources of information but by all means do your own investigations and come to your own conclusions.
